Things are about to get seriously swampy at the White Rock Theatre.
Our Summer Youth Project returns for its 23rd year with the wildly funny, big-hearted Shrek The Musical — a show packed with larger-than-life characters, outrageous fairy-tale chaos, and more layers than an onion.
Each summer, 100 young performers from across Hastings and beyond come together to create a full-scale musical from scratch. In just a few weeks they’ll sing, dance, act, laugh, and occasionally attempt their best Scottish ogre accent — all while building confidence, friendships and memories that last long after the final curtain.
This year our talented cast will bring Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and a whole gang of fairy-tale misfits to life in a show that proves heroes don’t have to be handsome, princesses can save themselves, and sidekicks sometimes steal the spotlight.
Our participants have the opportunity to work with a highly-skilled creative team including a professional Director, Choreographer, Musical Director, and Technical team to create a full-scale musical on the main stage of the White Rock Theatre. Our productions feature a live band, professional lighting, sound, set and costumes.
Thanks to bursary support, many of the young people taking part can join the adventure regardless of their circumstances — because at the White Rock Theatre we believe everyone deserves their moment in the spotlight, even if they arrive by swamp.
Expect big songs, big laughs, a dragon or two, and a cast that’s anything but ordinary.
