Three performances: 18-19 Feb 2027
Presented by Prologue Opera
Deep beneath our sea, lurks a monster in its maze – the Minotaur – reimagined. As it stretches its tentacles, the town’s youth summon Theseus to lead them across the sea to the labyrinth but it’s their own resilience that blazes the trail home, back to the light. This is an inspirational story of the young who refuse to give up, a town discovering what it can create together and a story we have all grown up with.
Monster in the Maze is an electrifying one-act opera in English. Hastings’ own Prologue Opera bring their innovative take to the artform – ensuring it’s accessible, enriching and always entertaining! Internationally renowned bass baritone Sir John Tomlinson leads the cast – the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra, puppeteers, community performers, local school children and the White Rock Youth all play a starring role.
Only the second time this has been fully staged in the UK – the White Rock’s centenary year deserves nothing less. Step into the maze. See what lies within.
– Music by Jonathan Dove, libretto by Alasdair Middleton (by arrangement with Peters Edition Limited).
