Free workshops presented by METIS Arts and Hastings White Rock | 6-9pm

If you can dream up the end of the world, you can dream up the end of the end of the world” (Split Britches).

Join us to imagine vivid life in a hopeful future. It’s 2047 and we live in a flourishing world that values all living beings. What might that look like? Or smell like? Or feel like?

How can we imagine our circumstances otherwise? What are the forces against this – and if we accept that nothing lasts forever, can we imagine our way out of crisis?

Instead of focusing on one person’s idea of a perfect future, this project brings together the imaginations of many people from different backgrounds. Your imaginations. It encourages us to practise thinking creatively about what the future could look like, as a way to push back against the feeling that things can’t ever change.

Led by Hastings resident Jess Mabel Jones, it builds on several years of exploring and rehearsing alternative futures.

Come to one, several or all workshops.

The imagining otherwise project has been conceived and imagined across multiple conversations, workshops and performances since 2017 by Andrea Ling, Anna-Maria Nabirye, Rob Awosusi, Charlie Folorunsho, Jess Mabel Jones, Shôn Dale-Jones, Stefanie Mueller, Zoë Svendsen, Tommy Ross-Williams, and Lucy Wray.
