White Rock Youth Theatre is an award-winning creative programme for young people aged 8–19, offering a supportive, inspiring space to create, perform and collaborate. Since 2009, WRYT has been led by professional theatre-makers, performers, musicians and filmmakers who are passionate about helping young people develop their skills, confidence and creative voice.
Across each term, members work with specialist tutors in acting, musical theatre, voice, dance and film, exploring everything from character and storytelling to choreography, songwriting and screen performance. You’ll collaborate with experienced theatre directors, West End performers, musicians, filmmakers and community artists, while being supported to discover where your strengths lie — whether that’s performing on stage, creating films, devising work, or working behind the scenes.
Each term has a clear creative focus and works towards a shared outcome, such as live performances, showcases on the White Rock stage, community events or film projects for festivals. There’s always something exciting and meaningful to work towards, giving you real experience of creative collaboration and performance.
Members are placed in age-appropriate groups so everyone can grow at their own pace, while still feeling part of a larger creative company. Terms usually end with a sharing or performance that families are invited to attend, and all WRYT members also have the opportunity to take part in the annual Creative Learning Showcase and wider community performances across Hastings.
WRYT is all about development, collaboration and inspiration, valuing young people’s ideas and encouraging creative ambition. We actively welcome feedback and collaboration from both students and families, helping the programme grow and evolve alongside the people who take part.
