The festive season is well underway with the opening of Jack and the Beanstalk!

The show burst onto the stage last Thursday 11 December, with a glittering gala night attended by specially invited guests.

Starring Richard Blackwood as the heroic Jack, and Clair Norris as the enchanting Fairy Sunshine, this is the second year the White Rock, part of The Guildhall Trust, has partnered with Polka Dot Pantomimes to produce a magical Christmas show. It also marks the first year that longstanding Hastings panto performer, Tim McArthur, has stepped into the Director’s role (while also playing the baddie, Fleshcreep).

Following the gala performance, the production has welcomed hundreds of young theatregoers through a busy programme of school performances this week, all of which have been met with enthusiastic responses and registering high figures on the decibel chart! Highlights with crowds include Daisy the Cow, the reveal of a truly gigantic Giant ‘Blunderbore’, and even a flying pantomime dame.

The White Rock is proud to offer several community groups and charities the opportunity to experience the show. These include people who may not typically be able to attend the theatre, as well as partners from their newly-launched Tickets for the Community initiative.

Brimming with humour, heart, and classic pantomime sparkle, Jack and the Beanstalk delivers a joyful Christmas experience for all ages. Audiences can expect a stunning set, a laugh-out-loud script, beautiful costumes, catchy songs to sing along to, and a towering beanstalk.

Clair Norris has swapped Walford for the White Rock this Christmas, bringing the East End to East Sussex in her pantomime debut. TV star and comedian Richard Blackwood is a bold and cheeky hero as Jack Trott. Ben Watson is funnier and sillier than ever as his brother, Silly Simon. Tim McArthur shows his villainous side again as the Giant’s nasty henchman, Fleshcreep. Mark Two has heaps of gags and costumes as Dame Tilly Trott, performing in pantos for over 40 years, and more than 25 years in the lovable dame role. Abi Ellis-Walter charms audiences with her dazzling dancing and singing as Princess Jill, and they’re all supported by a talented ensemble made up of incredible young performers.

Venue Director Nadine Passley comments, “Our pantomime is the heart of our festive season, and Jack and the Beanstalk represents everything we love about bringing theatre to our community. The passion, energy, and hard work that have gone into bringing this production to life shine through in every magical moment on stage, and we’re thrilled to be sharing some Christmas magic with our audiences.”

Running until Sunday 4 January 2026, Jack and the Beanstalk is a must-see festive treat for families and friends.
