Meet the three comics plus MC performing in the Studio on Fri 25 October.

The line-up for the first LOL Comedy Club at Hastings’ White Rock Studio has been confirmed with three top comics appearing at the launch of a regular comedy night, starting on Friday 25 October 2024.

Paul Pirie
Paul Pirie

Paul Pirie, dubbed the next Billy Connolly, began his stand-up career after giving up acting to pursue the funny man that lies within, quickly establishing himself on the Scottish comedy circuit.

He has been awarded runner up in the prestigious annual awards for Scottish Comedian of the Year making him the (second) funniest comedian in Scotland!

A brilliant, natural comedian, packed full of energy, he uses every ounce to maximum effect with superb delivery. With a set that jumps from bitchy to silly, you’re never more than a line away from a great pun, insight or well-crafted punch line, delivered with a ferocity that makes his humble beginnings on the Scottish circuit seem such a long time ago.

Paul’s career has encompassed TV, film, and radio alongside his skills as a stand-up, and he is now one of the biggest Scottish acts on the UK comedy circuit.

A physical, theatrical presence on stage, his sharp, rapid-fire comedy onslaught is packed with highly entertaining material, which blurs the lines between real-life anecdotes and flight of fancy. It has been observed that he channels the late Robin Williams at his most excitable; Pirie’s act is absolutely hilarious, and glowing reviews reinforce his comedy chops.

“Fizzing with energy and spewing out one-liners like he had just scoffed a dodgy prawn, Pirie is a man we will be seeing more of.”

Aaron Simmonds
Aaron Simmonds

Aaron Simmonds has been failing to stand up for 32 years; luckily he is far better at comedy than standing up. He has a unique perspective on life, usually of people’s belly buttons, which gives him stories to tell, and a sore neck.

He’s been described as “a comedian going places” – places that are wheelchair accessible.

Aaron’s comedy demonstrates expert storytelling, whilst packing jokes and opportunities for mirth into every moment. A comedic style is story-based, with clever one-liners interspersed throughout. He offers sharply-observed comedy which is grounded in his disability, but is by no means limited by it. Amiable, likeable, and with a commanding presence on stage, Aaron is an exciting talent and is destined for great things.

His credits include BBC At The Edinburgh Festivals (BBC Two), The Edinburgh Show (BBC Scotland), BBC Radio 1 and lXtra’s Unexpected Fluids podcast and Laura Whitmore’s Sunday Session (BBC Radio 5 Live). He’s also been seen and heard on BBC Three and BBC Radio 4 Extra, and has appeared in a BBC Quickie with Brennan Reece and Rosie Jones. Aaron performed his critically-acclaimed debut show, Disabled Coconut, at the Edinburgh Fringe which was also filmed by NextUp.

Aaron also has cerebral palsy and is a professionally-trained personal trainer, as well as a former international basketball player and world champion powerlifter.

It detailed a complicated relationship alongside the absurdity of “competitive disability”. Some people have got the idea, he explains, that because of his upper body strength and background in sport, he is “not disabled enough”.

“A superb storyteller…a confident, sparky, smiley presence onstage… a perfect lesson in how to deal with the terminally patronising, this hour belts along on wheels of laughter.”

Jake Steers
Jake Steers

Some people just have all round likeability factor and Jake Steers is certainly one of them with charisma in spades. An easy conversational style makes audiences warm to him immediately and his one-off persona and off the cuff style has audience in stitches. Catch him now before he’s too big to be playing comedy clubs!

“You can’t help but be in a good mood when you watch Jake on stage. Likeable, natural and very funny.”

Will Duggan
Will Duggan as MC for the night

MC, Will Duggan

Will Duggan has been seen/heard on The Russell Howard Hour (Sky One), Fresh From the Fest (Radio 4), Monster Court (CBBC) and is an Edinburgh Comedy Award winner. WOW. He’s been performing comedy since 2009 and since then has cemented himself as a dynamic and interesting performer in comedy clubs around the country. He mixes stories and gags with a cheerfully cynical view of the world.

Will has provided tour support for Justin Moorhouse, Hal Cruttenden and Gary Delaney, and he recently recorded an episode for the comedy Turtle Canyon Lectures.

As well as performing as a stand-up comic Will is a performer and part of the writing team for the highly prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Fosters Award winning show Funz & Gamez. An irreverent, shambolic, close to the knuckle Children’s Show that delights children and parents alike. He looks great in a onesie.
